KNMA the Famous Museum of Art in India Wishes you a Happy New Year with Series of Artist- Led Medium Workshops!

Kiran Nadar Museum of Art presented a two-day online workshop ‘Fragile, Handle with Care’- A workshop on working with letters and texts facilitated by artist Anuja Ghosalkar. The workshop looked at the act of reading everyday documents with care, as a performative act. Participants were encouraged to share these documents and work creatively with the group. 

This program is part of Methods, an ongoing series of artist- led medium workshops. KNMA is one of the best museums in India that opened for the public in January 2010, as the first private museum of art exhibiting Modern and contemporary works from India and the sub-continent. 

KNMA as a non-commercial, not-for-profit organization has been promoting Fine Arts in India. This museum of art in India exemplifies the dynamic relationship between art and culture through its exhibitions, publications, educational, and public programs. The workshop at one of the best museums in India entailed participants to look into their collection of letters, emails, post cards, greeting cards, handwritten or typed, on fraying paper or scribbled on note pads - fragile documents of ourselves and our exchanges with those close to us. The intent was to read these documents together and through it access our personal collections and find a performative language in the act of reading. Reading here constituted the literal act or interpretation, by re-writing, underlining, folding, drawing over words, texts. The workshop was a response to the objects, materials presented, but with fragility. 

This workshop stemmed from a performance that Anuja Ghosalkar has designed and curated since 2016, called The Reading Room. In The Reading Room, there are no performers, a closed audience of ten to 12 people bring in letters from their personal collections and read them alongside ones curated from the public domain. At the end of each Reading Room the letters are donated to Ghosalkar - that become part of future readings. Over the years Ghosalkar has collected over 80 letters - intimate letters between mothers and daughters or between lovers, official correspondence, historical exchanges, printouts of emails with emojis, form part of this collection. 

KNMA encourages participation of the local community through various workshops and activities organized within and outside the museum premise to promote Fine Arts in India. We hope to actively expand its reach to a wider community and be accessible to diverse groups.

KNMA is one of the more popular Museums in Delhi and is like an ongoing art fair in Delhi. In its effort to promote Indian art Kiran Nadar Museum of Art has initiated its newest digital series to explore the intersection of art and technology. 

This already well-received and highly successful art digital series is titled ‘Art X Technology’, which seeks to explore this intersection and examine the common ground where the two fields meet. The series will look at applying and engaging with technology and how age-old artistic traditions can challenge perceptions, create new aesthetics, melding the scientific and the creative while creating surreal worlds and beyond reality experiences. 

The art world has evolved and so have Museums in Delhi from new media art in the 60ʼs, to more recently, the trending world of NFTʼs. With record-breaking sales and virtual exhibitions and art fairs, the connection between the two crafts is only becoming more robust, creating a new language of expression that reshapes the conventional idea of art. Institutions and individuals alike have successfully worked towards integrated technology in transforming the perception and outreach of art. 

Moving away from dependence on a lattice of old-school influences, meticulously maintained by galleries, museums and critics, the series explores how art and constant technological developments lead to unexplored horizons that change the way we see, approach and experience art. This new hybrid creativity is moving to make art immersive, interactive, tactile and personalised.

Exploring this series by KNMA One of the most interesting places in Delhi, we talk to artists such as Hitesh Kumar from Splat Studios, AfrahShafiq, VisioniEcentriche, SehajRahal, MithuSen and Deepanjana Klein. They have pivoted their practice with the infusion of technology or continue to explore how technology is a new age defining art movement. The series kicked off on Sunday, September 12, with Hitesh Kumar, Creative Director of Splat Studio, continuing until October 10, 2021. All episodes are watchable on KNMA social media channels. India’s First Private Museum in Delhi Announces Online Photography Competition

The Kiran Nadar Museum of Art India’s First Private Museum in Delhi is hosting an online nationwide photography competition for school students. This initiative aims to provide an excellent opportunity for all school-going children to showcase their talent and win exciting prizes. 

This contest is a tribute to World Photography Day (August 19), a day to pay homage to this art form, remember the present and leave a positive trail for the future. KNMA celebrates world photography day, with the hope of inspiring children to explore photography and encourage kindness and positivity, as the world continues its battle against the coronavirus. 

The theme for this online competition is ‘Act of Kindness’, young photographers are encouraged to look at the world around them, find creative opportunities to capture an ‘Act of Kindness’ and showcase it on a public platform with international reach. The winning photograph will be showcased to the world on the KNMA website, as well as in the museum’s ‘Wall of Fame’. The initiative is to highlight young talent and inspire them. 

The idea for this competition was born during our recent lockdown, as India fell victim to the second wave. With so many inspiring and encouraging stories of absolute strangers helping each other out, this competition aims to capture these meaningful moments in life and preserve them as a moment in history that should not be forgotten, instead used as a learning mechanism for future generations. 

The competition is open to budding young photographers (born on or after January 1, 2003). 

Any person residing in India can participate. The winner will get Rs 50,000 cash vouchers with a total prize worth over Rs 150,000. All participants will receive e-participation certificates. Submissions can only be made through the official KNMA website (https://www.knma.in/knma-shutterbugs). One entry per participant is permitted. The competition is open for entries from August 19, 2021, and will be accepting entries until September 19, 2021. The winner will be announced by October 2, 2021 on the KNMA website.
